What is Osteoporois ? |
|
| |
Osteoporosis is a disease in which bones become fragile and are more likely to break even by small impact. If not prevented or if left untreated, osteoporosis can progress painlessly until a bone breaks. These broken bones, also known as fractures, occur typically in the hip, spine and wrist. |
|
| |
A hip fracture almost always requires hospitalization and major surgery. It can impair a person's ability to walk unassisted and may cause prolonged or permanent disability or even death. Spinal or vertebral fractures also have serious consequences, including loss of height, severe back pain and deformity. |

What is BMD ? |
|
| |
Bone Mass Density (BMD) test measures the amount of minerals in bones. BMD tests help doctors diagnose Osteoporosis, confirm the fractures are Osteoporosis-related, predict the risk for fractures and determine if an Osteoporosis management plan may be helpful. |
|
| |
Repeated BMD tests would help you to know if your bone density has increased, decreased or stayed the same. It can help you and your doctor to determine if your medicine is working well or if you should consider another plan of action. |
