Latin name: Andrographis paniculata
Indian name: Kalmegh
Habitat: Kalmegh is an annual herb found throughout India, specifically in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. It is cultivated to some extent in Assam and West Bengal.
Useful in: Kalmegh is used as a bitter tonic, an alternative and anthelmintic. Green leaves are used as stomachic and in the treatment of dysentery and dyspepsia. It possesses antibiotic activity. It is also known to prevent changes induced by toxins like CCl4 and restore liver function fast.
