Latin Name: Berberis aristata
Indian Name: Rasanjan
Habitat: A shrub indigenous to India and Ceylon. Barberry bushes grow on the Nilgiris and all over the temperate Himalayas, from Bhutan to Kunawer.
Useful in: It is the extract made from the root bark of Daruhaldi. It is bitter & astringent. Due to its antiseptic & anti-infective properties, it is used both externally & internally in dermatological infections.
Its ointment made with camphor and butter is applied to pimples and boils.
